2-20M Antenna Kit for the POTA Performer (SS17 NOS)

The only difference between the New and the NOS version is the threads on the NOS were manually tapped for 3/8 24 and the New versions were tapped by our Lathe. I recently built a POTA PERformer antenna using a 17′ 6″ telescoping whip I bought at a hamfest several years ago. I needed a few more inches to improve the match on 20m CW so I bought the Alpha 17′ 9″ telescoping whip. The Alpha telescoping whip is so much better constructed than the one I had. Repeat buying tells you most of what you need to know. The SS17 earns its place in a go bag and stays there. The stainless telescoping whip is solid, sections lock with confidence, and the hardware holds up to real field use. Collapsed, it disappears into a bag; extended, it’s rigid enough to work without babysitting. Where it surprised me was in its second life. I paired two SS17 units to build a portable apex-fed delta loop, and the results have been excellent. Better DX performance than a simple vertical, and the whole assembly still packs down smaller than most portable antenna options. If you’re considering a second one for exactly this purpose, it’s worth it.
